I’ve always wanted a rocking chair, so when I saw a second-hand one that would suit our house, I didn’t hesitate a moment, and a few hours later it was in our living room.
The problem is that two of our cats love it as much as I do, so I hardly ever get a chance to sit in it.
Having said that, a few days ago I found myself in luck and whilst I sat in the chair, sipping my morning coffee in front of the fire, I reflected on my experience of building true, meaningful connections through social media or other online tools.
Over the years I’ve spent a fair share of time on Facebook and Zoom, reconnecting with people I already knew and making new encounters.
I’ve spent hundreds of hours, listening, observing and interacting with people from around the world. I’ve led groups, taken online courses, exchanged messages and done pretty much everything else that’s possible with the technologies available to us today.
I’ve met extraordinary people along the way and I will forever cherish the time we have had together, but out of those people, the ones I’ve built a strong connection with, are the ones I’ve eventually met in person.
I’m a very physical person and for me being able to be together in the same space, share a coffee or go for a walk is important to strengthen connections.
Nothing compares to being face to face with someone. We can listen more deeply and notice slight, unconscious movements in their body that reveal more of what’s going on for them (in their heads), than the any word they say.
And for me that’s priceless. When I’m with a client, a friend, my wife or anyone else, I want to be fully present to them, I want to feel them with my entire being, I want our energies to meet, to mingle and merge into an endless dance. I want a deep connection that can only be achieved if we are physically in the same place.
I’m not saying this is the only way a powerful conversation can happen, in fact, most of my coaching takes place over Zoom or Skype and still delivers amazing results.
What I’m saying is that if we can be together, we can create even more magically.
So, if you’re ready to take your life to a new level, come and walk with me. I’m always here to help if you are open to receive it.
Be love, be alive
